H2 filling systems from Argo-Anleg

Solutions for a cleaner mobile future

We develop hydrogen refuelling systems for all mobile applications. Our range of products extends from interchangeable container tank systems for ships, integrated tank systems for trains, buses and trucks to compact systems for automobiles. Here, the capacity ranges from approx. 5 kg for vehicle tank systems to 126 kg per interchangeable container for ships at 350 to 700 bar. We thus cover the requirements of automobiles as well as light-load and heavy-load applications such as buses and trucks. We offer both permanently installed and exchangeable tank system solutions. Our hydrogen systems can be equipped with a control unit developed in-house, which monitors and controls all functions up to the fuel cell.

Hydrogen filling systems

H2 tank systems for ships

Argo-Anleg has developed the “multiple-elements gas containers” (MEGCs) swap container refuelling system for inland shipping. This allows an inland vessel to be supplied or refilled with green gaseous hydrogen in a very short time. Empty exchangeable containers can be easily unloaded from the ship by crane or forklift truck and replaced by filled exchangeable containers. At the same time, the swap containers can be transported by lorries to nearby hydrogen supply points such as wind power or solar parks, where they can be refilled with green hydrogen.

“Pushboat Elektra” model project

For example, the pushboat “Elektra”, which is equipped with a hydrogen drive on the Argo dock, is equipped with six exchangeable containers (MEGCs) installed on board.

The interchangeable container tank systems (MEGCs) used here each have 12 high-pressure storage tanks (up to 500 bar) with a capacity of 10.5 kg of hydrogen each, which means that 126 kg of hydrogen can be provided with one interchangeable container. The swap bodies are equipped with a position-fixing device developed by Argo-Anleg, with which the swap bodies can be placed on the ship in a non-slip manner.

  • Lifting lugs
  • Forklift pockets

Hydrogen filling systems

H2 tank systems for trains

Our hydrogen tank system for trains is integrated into the roof construction of the train in a space-saving way. In addition to the technical challenges, the safety aspect plays a prominent role in passenger transport. Argo-Anleg has therefore developed a special thermally activated pressure release device (TPRD) for this purpose. This valve not only detects the temperature at the mounting point of the TPRD, but also at other system-critical interfaces. In the event of an emergency or malfunction, the valve enables the hydrogen to be released quickly and in a targeted manner.

Technical features

H2 tank systems for trains

  • Nominal pressure: 500 bar
  • Storage volume: 40 kg
  • Total weight of one segment: 800 kg (without filling)
  • provided with GHU
  • provided with 8 OTVs

Hydrogen filling systems

H2 filling systems for buses

Our hydrogen refuelling system for buses is integrated into the roof structure of the bus in a space-saving way. In any conceivable accident situation, the valve allows the hydrogen to be released quickly and selectively upwards into the atmosphere.

Technical features

H2 filling systems for buses

  • Nominal pressure: 350 bar
  • Storage volume: 30 kg
  • Total weight of one segment: 600 kg (without filling)
  • provided with GHU
  • provided with 6 OTVs

Hydrogen filling systems

H2 filling systems for trucks

Argo-Anleg also offers H2 tank systems for trucks, with a capacity of 14 to 20 kg. For heavy-duty use on the road, we have developed a special tank holder that can permanently withstand the acceleration forces and vibrations that occur. This ensures that the high-pressure storage tanks can be held securely for many years. The tank system is designed to be installed vertically directly behind the cab of the truck. It can accommodate up to five horizontal high-pressure storage tanks. The arrangement of the high-pressure storage tanks is customer- and model-specific.

Technical features

H2 tank systems for trucks

  • Nominal pressure:  350 bis 700 bar
  • Storage volume: 14 to approx. 50 kg
  • Total weight of one segment: approx. 1200 kg (without filling)
  • equipped with GHU
  • available with up to 5 OTVs
  • equipped with proprietary control system

Customised implementation

The system is available in a standard version. Depending on the concept and available installation space, it can be customised. Argo-Anleg advises you, builds the appropriate solutions for your vehicles or your vehicle programme and adapts the frames individually for your vehicles.

In addition to the tasks of pressure and temperature monitoring of the H2 tank system, the ARGO controller developed by us can also take over the thermal management of the fuel cell on request.

We offer our own IR interface for refuelling. This enables a very compact design and the reduction of interfaces. The H2 systems can be connected to both fuel cells and hydrogen combustion engines.

During development, we simulate the natural frequency, calculate the loads on the components and provide the necessary proof of strength (engineering shock and vibration resistance) for the system.

H2 filling systems for passenger cars

Argo-Anleg also offers hydrogen solutions ready for series production for individual passenger transport. Our customer- and model-specific H2 tank systems have a capacity of 3.5 kg to 5 kg. We have reduced the number of necessary components and thus the weight of the overall system to a minimum by developing a proprietary gas handling unit (GHU).

Technical features

H2 filling systems for passenger cars

  • Nominal pressure: 500 to 700 bar
  • Storage volume: 3.5 to 20 kg
  • Total weight of one segment: approx. 300 kg (without filling)
  • equipped with GHU
  • available with up to 5 OTVs
  • equipped with proprietary control system

“Turnkey” H2 tank systems

In addition to developing and manufacturing H2 tank systems, we can also offer turnkey EPC solutions. From the production drawing to the ready-to-operate system, we deliver customised H2 tank systems at a guaranteed price, on a guaranteed date and with the corresponding performance guarantees.
